2022 Annual Report

A message from
DC Public Library Foundation
Executive Director
Rob Hartman

Dear Library Lover,

I am delighted to present to you our annual report, which highlights the accomplishments, milestones, and impact made by DC Public Library Foundation over the past year.

As DC’s community needs grew over the last twenty years, our libraries evolved to provide even more, acting as resource hubs for workforce development, early childhood education, and social services that help residents thrive.

The Library is DC’s only city agency that reaches every corner of the community – serving residents ages 1 to 100 regardless of income, educational attainment, or background. As such, DCPLF invests in programming according to the community’s needs.

Recent investments include

  • support for children and families to make the transition from kindergarten to first grade,

  • social justice arts programming for teens,

  • care kits for unhoused DC residents,

  • entrepreneurship courses for DC’s next small business leaders,

  • as well as community conversations around anti-racism, approaches to restorative justice, and programs celebrating the diversity of Washington, DC.

DCPLF is more than just its programs and events. We empower people with tangible skills, creating an institution that will continue to inspire life-long learning.

None of these achievements would have been possible without the dedication and hard work of the library’s exceptional staff, the Foundation’s dedicated Board, and the support of our community. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the library staff for their tireless efforts in providing excellent service and creating a welcoming environment for all. We are also grateful to our volunteers and donors whose contributions have made a significant impact on our programs and initiatives.

Moreover, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to you, our esteemed library patrons and community members. Your continuous support, attendance at our events, and feedback have been invaluable in shaping the library's direction and improving our services. We are truly honored to be a vital resource for you.

On behalf of the entire library team, we express our sincere appreciation for your unwavering support. We are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and look forward to another year of inspiring learning experiences, community connections, and personal growth.

Cheers,
Rob
