Know Your Power is a civic engagement arts contest for DC teens.
The goal of DC Public Library Foundation’s Know Your Power program is to help teens know and express their power through art.
In 2022, Pepco, the DC Public Library Foundation, and DC Public Library invited DC teens to find their power and use it to creatively address a topic that is important to them. The amazing pieces submitted were not only well-crafted but had strong voices and perspectives on a wide variety of subjects pertaining to civic engagement. Winners in the four categories of Illustration, Writing, Music, and Photography receive prizes that help them continue to explore their creativity, including a laptop, a Canon EOS 4000D, a Wacom CTL4100 Intuos Graphics Drawing Tablet, and a Fender Electric Guitar.
The image below titled Black and Trans is by Skyler, age 19, who won first runner up in the Illustration category.
